One of the first challenges Distillique identified during its inception, was the lack of access Distillers (especially Home Distillers) had to the everyday Consumables needed in a Distillery Operation.
From the beginning, Distillique strove to provide a wide range of Consumables in small quantities to our Customers, thereby encouraging Experimentation and Product Development, and making it more affordable.
What type of Consumables do I use in a Distillery?
There are many ways this can be categorized, but let us look at Consumables in terms of Processes:
- Fermentation - Here our Consumables will include Raw Materials, Enzymes (either for Starch Conversion or Pectin Management, sometimes for flavor extraction), Yeast, Yeast Activator, Yeast Nutrients, Alkaline and Acid for pH Adjustment, Sterilizing Agents (for Equipment and to kill Wild Yeast), etc.
- Distillation - These Consumables are more limited to those which will make the still run better, or applications are done to Intermediate Steps like Low Wines to reduce Sulfur (as an example). This category will include products like Anti-Foaming Agent, Hydrogen Peroxide, etc.
- Spirit Enhancement - Here we have Consumables that either add to or change the Characteristics of the Spirit we have distilled. This can include Wood, Barrels, Botanicals, Foam Stabilizer, Emulsifiers, Preservatives, Activated Carbon, etc.
- Packaging - The last Group of Consumables has nothing to do with the Liquid Spirit Product itself, but rather the Bottle and Packaging. These would include Bottles, Closures, Seals, Shrink Wrap, Sealing Wax, Labels, etc.
