The main purpose of soxhlet extraction is to extract even "the last few molecules" of aromatic and essential oil compounds from botanicals and to extract compounds that are normally very difficult to extract or have very low yields. - It even extracts the magical aroma compounds from Myrrh and Frankincense resin (think "tree gum" extractions).
For Soxhlet extractions, you would need about 300ml pure ethanol or 600ml of vodka as solvent.
Once you have extracted the aromatic compounds, you may wish to separate them from the ethanol used as a solvent (or hexane or other solvents). for this you may use the simple essential oil extraction kit to recover the ethanol from the extract.
This is the Soxhlet extraction kit as used in our "E1-Extractions and essential oils" course.
